Hanover's Certified Nursing Assistant Prep class, a joint endeavor with Ivy Tech, was designed for students interested in gaining certification from the State of Indiana to become Certified Nursing Assistants tuition-free. A CNA certification is a foot in the door for healthcare careers and sets students up for excellent paying summer and holiday break jobs that provide many hours of valuable clinical exposure and experience.
The class combines coursework, labs, and clinicals which prepare students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for providing basic care in extended care facilities, hospitals, and home health agencies under the direction of licensed nurses. It presents information on the health care system and employment opportunities at a variety of entry levels and includes an overview of the health care delivery systems, health care teams, and legal and ethical considerations. Individuals who successfully complete this course are eligible to apply to sit for the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) certification exam for nursing assistants. This course meets the minimum standards set forth by the ISDH for Certified Nursing Assistant training. Students must have permission of instructor to be enrolled and successful participants earn one unit of credit for the class.
